No School for Pre-K - Grade 6 - National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools Board of Trustees passed a motion to close all CTR schools on Thursday, September 30 to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation during a special meeting of Board called two weeks ago and held today (Sept. 10). Please review our revised Divisional Calendar.

A group of more than 500 stakeholders informed the Board’s decision including consultation with Indigenous Elders, Indigenous educational leaders, Indigenous advisors, Indigenous families of CTR, neighbouring school divisions, CTR’s lead teachers on our Indigenous Education Committee, CTR families, and CTR staff.

Teaching and learning about Truth and Reconciliation in a meaningful way through the development of common lessons, activities and themes will be a major focus both before and after the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Another symbolic action will be to encourage staff and students to wear orange on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and all CTR schools will lower their flags to half-mast on September 30 as a symbol of this day.

CTR is also encouraging families to check their local community for opportunities to engage in commemoration of this day. The Board extends their gratitude to everyone who offered their knowledge, expertise, and input in this engagement process. May God bless Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation process. 🧡
